Chaska Hockey Families,
My name is Ryan Siiro, I am the Head Coach of the Chaska Boys’ High School Hockey Program. I am cordially inviting all Bantam players to join our Summer Training Program (STP) for Chaska High School this summer. We are excited to help in the development of these players to improve their hockey game, hockey IQ, and build the future athletes of our program and beyond.
This summer we will focus our efforts both on-ice and during our dryland training. Both initiatives will have a heavy emphasis on building a new culture and direction for our program. This culture will be built on the concepts of Attitude, Grit and Humility:
Attitude is what we have when you come into the rink every day. A readiness to learn, work, and bond;
Grit is what we show when things do not go our way, we keep fighting; and,
And finally, Humility is what we show when we have success.
In everything that we do, we will expect to see attitude, grit, and humility from players in our camp. We will maximize our time during the four hours of ice time we have each week; two of which will focus on small group training. Through our camp, our athletes will become more powerful and efficient skaters; they will develop hockey sense and a new knowledge of the game of hockey; and will improve their shooting, stickhandling, and passing.
The on-ice component of our program will drive our athletes to further develop and excel at important in-game concepts, skills that need to be refined to take their game to the next level. In addition to general individual skill development, our camp will focus on the following:
Even / odd man rush decision-making and targeted play execution
Passing concepts including open ice area passes, tight area passes and general passing concepts
Offensive and defensive zone puck protection
Situational shooting; scoring versus creating opportunities
Off puck timing; how to get to the right spot with speed at the right time
We will also have a heightened focus this year on our on dryland training. Dryland training is meant to break our athletes down and push their bodies in order to become stronger athletes by the start of the hockey season. We stress the word athlete because every exercise that we will do will make us more athletic; reducing potential injuries, build stamina and increase endurance.
